Pepsi "Stay Forever Young"
With the slogan, "Every generation refreshes the world", Pepsi once again tried to reinvent the way its customers viewed the process of drinking their product. By appealing to the patriotic feelings of America, Pepsi brings forth the idea that freshness not only relates with beverages, but also with age. This advertisement addresses the notion that although technology and other advancements have changed throughout the years, the reliability that Pepsi ensures stands still.
Throughout this commercial, touching images and themes evoke a proud sense of achievement throughout the history of America. Presented at first with images from the past, those images are then juxtaposed with present- day images. The first of the many themes is that of war. The first is a child running into the arms of his father who had just come home from war; the second being a son running into the arms of his mother who has also just come home from war. The nationalism exemplified in this juxtaposition is immediately followed by a technological theme. When lighters were once used at a concert, cell phones have now replaced them; country, rap; old car, new car; Gumby, Shrek; the Twist, Krumping; bottle, can. No matter what has changed, the patriotism that America has shown throughout the years has pushed through, as pictured in the clips with the American flags waving in the background. As well as the flag has stood as our nations backbone, so has Pepsi.
The background song that is being emphasized contains the phrase "May you stay forever young", as if drinking Pepsi products will keep you young, just as it has for our nation. Through this advertisement, Pepsi hopes to acknowledge the fact that just as the main focus of America has stayed the same throughout the years, no matter what the changes, so has Pepsi. "And may you have a strong foundation when the winds of change do shift."

Hands by Jewel
Written in 1998, Hands was released from Jewel's second album entitled Spirit. In the prayerful song, she advises listeners of the deepening need to follow the pack. Throughout life, as Jewel mentions, one may either sit back and allow others to mold the world they want to live it, or they can use their own Hands, no matter how small they may be.
Through the use of alliteration and contrasting diction, Jewel shines light on the criterion that society forces us to abide by. In the first stanza, she inserts two negative statements, "I won't be made useless. I won't be made idle with despair", and immediadely negates those strong statements with a positive, enlightening one, "I will gather myself around my faith." By creating a more pleasant attitude, Jewel indeed bring light from darkness. "For light the darkness most fears." By using alliteration, "...worry 'cause worry is wasteful..." she reemphasizes that constant stressing over things that we cannot change is "wasteful and useless in times like these."
In her lyrics, Jewel utilizes personification to highlight all of the disappointments life itself hands to our community. "Poverty stole your golden shoes... And heartache came to visit me." Although handed many obstacles, she comments on the fact that poverty "didn't steal your laughter", and "I knew it wasn't ever after." To illustrate why those disappointments did not affect her, she uses metonymy. She sings "My hands are small I know, but they're not yours, they are my own, and i am never broken.", to indicate that by working against society's downfalls, she can overcome them. This positive refrain portrays an overall positive attitude and tone that fills listeners with hope.
Through her lyrics, Jewel encourages society to take action, even though others look away, for we may find hope amidst chaos. To wrap up her message, she compares us with God, "we are God's eyes...hands...mind...heart", and encourages listeners to do as God would, no matter the situation.

Hands Lyrics
If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands
We are God's hands
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith

Love paints a picture
All the flowers grow in the garden.
Their pretty leaves luminesce with color.
Greens, reds, and pinks paint a picture,
Mixing and shading, outlining and changing.
Roses, carnations, and hybiscuses grow,
Each time creating a brilliant new art.
The sun looks down at her beautiful art
With love. It's not only a garden,
But a canvass, a picture ready to grow.
She looks down and chooses from many a color,
She begins to blend a portrait ever changing.
Stepping back, she wonders, Who will help to paint my picture?
The rain says, me, I'm essence of your picture.
My abundance will take over, and ruin your art.
Rain, hail, or snow, my shape is always changing.
Within one hour, I can destroy your garden.
I can flood or dry out all of your color.
But give me a chance, with love, I will help your picture grow.
But what about me? You need seeds to grow
Your masterpiece. Without me, what would be of your picture?
Without a start, there would be no color.
No color, no mixing, and definately no art.
You need me to provide the beginning of your garden.
Unlike rain, once planted, I'm never changing.
It is I, the Earth, with a love never changing,
Who will nourish and help your pretty art grow.
Without me, your flowers will never be a garden.
You need my love, for with no canvass, there can be no picture.
Let me be the one who adds to your art,
I will provide the background for your majesty to color.
No, no, says the bee, of yellow and black color.
I work all day, my duty won't change.
I'm dedicated to work and help form your art.
I'll pollinate, you'll see, the beauty will grow.
You see, I cannot help but loving your picture!
Let me help create a picture from a garden.
It's time to make art, and create all my colors.
You're all a part of my garden, don't change.
Your love will help grow and paint me a wonderful picture.

Contradiction
He's perfect. A wild thing, an original Calvin Klien.
Every time we stare at the moon, it sends shivers down my spine.
Always ascher, never blue, just a chapel of love.
So nice, and sweet! An angel sent from above.
Romeo and Juliet, Sonny and Cher, even Adam and Eve,
My heart would surely break if he were to leave.
My cupcake, inferno, my little peach parfait,
Bought a pink diamond, what can i say?

I hate her. She's only a waitress at best.
She's dumb and clingy, but has a mermaid's chest.
She thinks she's haute chocolate, but she doesn't know,
That I'm the boss, it's a one man show.
Romantic movies, live jazz, and too many a love song,
She thinks it's paradise, but it's lasting too long.
She thinks she's royal, the Queen of the courts,
That flash of fuschia she has, is only rose quartz.
